What Up Family?
Welcome to The Edit with Aaron Seawood, a lifestyle letter serving a weekly dose of real estate, culture, and wisdom—all in three minutes or less. Let’s dive in.
Real Estate Remix
Early last week WeWork declared bankruptcy and filed for Chapter 11 protection. Five years ago, WeWork was one of the biggest players in real estate, signing leases all over the world and controlling more commercial office space in NYC than anyone else. In the end, it was their aggressive expansion and inept leasing team that led to their downfall (Full disclosure: I had a WeWork office for two years). No matter what happens, the impact that WeWork had on coworking, short-term commercial leases, and flexible office space is undeniable. It’ll be interesting to see how they continue moving forward—my bet is that after scaling down operations, WeWork will continue to operate successfully. Generally, I don’t think coworking is going anywhere and that it’ll grow following post-pandemic remote-work trends if done correctly. What’s your take?
NYC Insider: What’s Happening This Week
We’re halfway through November and a week away from Thanksgiving which means it’s time to plan the family-fun holiday festivities before it’s too late. I love living so close to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and do my best to support them year-round. Starting this Friday, their annual holiday show, Lightscape, will begin. It’s an after-dark show illuminated with works of art and immersive experiences. I’m planning on bringing the whole fam, grabbing some hot chocolate, and getting into the holiday spirit. Grab your tickets here, it’s sure to sell out!
Weekly Gem 💎
Honor Your Design.
Last Saturday was my birthday, and I spent the day grounded in gratitude, and thankful for my loving family, friends, team members, and the opportunity to take another breath. When you live this much life (54 laps around the sun!) you start to have a calm and a confidence that isn’t easily attained. The game slows down, making it that much easier to navigate. It’s not that life gets easier, no, it’s that you know how to properly respond: what to do, how to do, when to do. It has been one helluva year; many peaks and valleys and soul searching to get to this place of enlightenment and alignment. I’ve learned that my purpose in life is to be myself, to honor my design, and shine my light as bright as possible. So, I’m going to do exactly that! I appreciate all the birthday wishes and salute each and everyone of you on the path to enlightenment. Love to all 💌
