The 25 Most Defining Pieces of Furniture From the Last 100 Years

April 3, 2024

What Up Family?

Welcome to The Edit with Aaron Seawood, a lifestyle letter serving a weekly dose of real estate, culture, and wisdom—all in three minutes or less. Let’s dive in.

Real Estate Remix

It’s been a big couple of weeks in the real estate industry! With so many articles, videos, and POVs it can be a lot to digest. I figured my readers could use a break from “headline” news so I’m taking this week to simply say: while there will be change to our industry, it will be some time before we know exactly how this all shakes out. Brokers like myself will continue to lead with transparency and empathy. I’m here to advocate for my clients, to provide value, and to work my ass off on your behalf. While my official title is real estate broker, a client of mine recently introduced me as a “tastemaker, therapist, and shaman” and I couldn’t be happier continuing to be that for my buyers.

NYC Insider: What’s Happening This Week

I get a lot of flack for this but believe it or not…I’m not a coffee drinker. In fact, hot chocolate is hands down my drink of choice. It’s not even seasonal for me—in the dead of summer you’ll still find me drinking hot chocolate. So over the next few weeks, I’m going on a hot chocolate run and ranking the best ones in the city. Currently on my list is: Lyseê, Bar Pisellino, and Venchi, but I’m looking for more recs! Send me your faves and if I end up ranking it in my top 5, I’ll send you a gift card for your next 5 hot chocolates on me. Just reply to this email or text me!

Weekly Gem 💎

Second guessing is for suckas!

Stop doing this immediately! Too often I’ve “re-tried” the case, thinking ‘what if I had done it this way, may the result have been different’? We have to trust ourselves; our strategy is based on the info we have at that time and no matter the outcome, we need to own our decision. There’s nothing wrong with learning from plays that we call (be they good or bad), but second-guessing will have you in a perpetual tailspin. To avoid this scenario, do your best to trust your gut instinct and live to fight another day.

Boutique New Development in Lenox Hill  (only 6 days on market!)

Listing courtesy of my Compass colleague, Alexa Lambert

This crib is an incredible new development in a full-service boutique building on the UES with just 36 residences. I just recently helped a buyer of mine secure a place in a different new development, so I’m back on this wave! 200 East 75th St, Unit 5C ($3.3M) is a spacious 2 bed, 2 and a half bath with large west-facing windows and a calm, inviting vibe. Here are the highlights:

  • High-end kitchen features include Italian Statuario Extra honed countertops, Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, wine fridge, and a custom hood by AD 100 designer Yellow House Architects.
  • Both bedrooms face east and look out among trees and ivy-covered buildings which allows for quiet evenings and great morning light.
  • Building amenities include a landscaped garden with a cozy outdoor fireplace, roof terrace, billiards room, salon, cinema, sauna, virtual sports room, and more.
  • There’s a bunch of layouts available so if you’re feeling the building/neighborhood, reach out to me—let’s see some residences!
  • Who wants a tour?

Before you go…

🪑: The 25 most defining pieces of furniture from the last 100 years. (From the NYTimes so you know it’s legit…but is it complete?) Aside from that debate, which pieces are speaking to you?

📖: The greatest American novels. Any book you feel has been left out in the cold?

🎵: Queen Bey dropped Renaissance II “Cowboy Carter” and it’s a total vibe. What do you think of Beyoncé’s take on Country music? Her rendition of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” is 🔥

🎤: A lot of you were psyched when I shared that Brooklyn Paramount is re-opening. Here’s a closer look inside the new venue. It’s so fly!
