Taylor Swift’s Impact on Real Estate

November 1, 2023

What Up Family?

Welcome to The Edit with Aaron Seawood, a lifestyle letter serving a weekly dose of real estate, culture, and wisdom—all in three minutes or less. Let’s dive in.

Real Estate Remix

Those who know me know how much music means to me. And while I wouldn’t refer to myself as a Swiftie, per se, there’s no denying the impact Taylor Swift has had on the music industry, the US economy, and the commercial real estate market (Beyoncé and her tour, too!). The Fed’s July Beige Book stated “Despite the slowing recovery in tourism overall, May was the strongest month for hotel revenue in Philadelphia since the onset of the pandemic, in large part due to an influx of guests for Taylor Swift concerts.” The Eras tour is projected to generate $5B in consumer spending in the U.S. alone, and $10B globally—a figure larger than the GDP of 50+ countries! These numbers are mind blowing and speak to greater trends happening outside of music. For example, commercial real estate is projected to adapt to these trends and offer more experiential attractions and get in on the success of live performances. The data gives us food for thought as we continue to navigate post-pandemic consumer trends and spending habits.

NYC Insider: What’s Happening This Week

First Thursdays is tomorrow, which means art galleries all across the city will keep their doors open late for new openings. While Chelsea is a popular destination for First Thursdays—specifically the galleries that lie between 9th and 10th Avenues from 18th to 27th street—I’m hitting up DUMBO. Art galleries will stay open until 8 pm, offering artist talks, live performances, and free beverages—all set to the backdrop of those iconic river views. You can learn more here

Rustic Park Slope Townhome with a Moroccan-Inspired Solarium

Listing courtesy of my Compass colleague, Troy Gordon

This Park Slope townhouse caught my eye immediately once it was listed. 364 Douglass Street is a gorgeous four-bed, four-and-a-half bath residence spanning four stories. It’s covered head-to-toe in charming details, such as:

  • A year-round solarium, crafted with mullions from forged steel and finished with Moroccan cement tiles.
  • Custom sound proof windows and Bang & Olufsen speakers
  • Private terrace featuring panoramic views of Brooklyn.
  • Poured concrete floors, custom walnut vanities, and glass-enclosed showers throughout the home add a cool industrial touch with a warm edge.
  • Who wants a tour?

Before you go…
