What Up Family?
Welcome to The Edit with Aaron Seawood, a lifestyle letter serving a weekly dose of real estate, culture, and wisdom—all in three minutes or less. Let’s dive in.
Real Estate Remix
Living in the “city that never sleeps” is fun when you’re in your 20s, fam, but not so much when you’re investing in your forever home. Noise volume is a big factor when buying and selling, and as a broker, it’s my job to understand the impacting factors in order to guide you. The NYTimes recently wrote an article outlining the areas with the most noise complaints registered on the city’s 311 system. The top three neighborhoods are: the Bronx, Washington Heights and Inwood, and the UWS (including Manhattan Valley and Lincoln Square). Data like this is always good to be aware of, however I will caveat that many things impact this experience: your home’s proximity to main streets with bars and the placement of your bedroom plus quality of windows. You can see the full list of neighborhoods here—if you have questions on how this impacts your home purchase plans or sale, reply to this email and let’s chat!
NYC Insider: What’s Happening This Week
These colder winter months make it way too easy to hibernate inside. I totally get the appeal, especially since my work keeps me out and about most of the day, but I do like to make time for art. This month I’ve bookmarked a few new gallery shows in Chelsea that look interesting. (For anyone wondering, I use the app See Saw to find the shows.) So far both Nicola Vassell, which is showing Na Kim: Memory Palace, and Pace Gallery, which is presenting Irving Penn’s Kinship look really interesting to me. If you’ve been to any good shows or exhibits recently, please send me your recs!

Take Time to Be Still
Living in a city as fast-paced as NYC often feels like nonstop pressure to “be productive” with our time. (Especially in an industry like real estate that “never sleeps”.) However, I’d argue that taking time to reflect and be still is equally as important to prioritize. Too often we go, go, go (getting deals done, talking to clients, running around the city to the next showing—or whatever the equivalent is for your job and lifestyle). Sometimes you have to stop, be still, and focus on yourself. Whether you choose to meditate, go for a walk without your phone, read, or get a massage, consider this a sacred time to focus solely on yourself, both physically and spiritually.
