What Up Family?
Welcome to The Edit with Aaron Seawood, a lifestyle letter serving a weekly dose of real estate, culture, and wisdomâall in three minutes or less. Letâs dive in.Â
Real Estate RemixÂ
NYC buildings are infamous for scaffolding, with some lasting years and even decades. Local Law 11âa regulation that requires regular inspection and maintenance of buildings in New Yorkâis often the culprit. When building managers or property owners arenât serious about completing construction promptly, the scaffolding can sit untouched for years. Hereâs an interesting article that sheds more light on why NYC sidewalks are covered with 400 miles of scaffolding and what you can do to expedite shed removal. As a homebuyer, inquiring about the current status of repairs and knowing the buildingâs management team is key. Make sure you rely on your agent when asking these questions, as we often have âinsiderâ information about the building team and their level of responsiveness.Â
NYC Insider: Whatâs Happening This WeekÂ
One of my favorite art shows is this weekend! The Armory Show has been a cornerstone of NYCâs art scene since its inception in 1994, bringing together the worldâs leading international contemporary and modern art galleries. Itâs happening from Sept 6-8th at the Javits Center. Tickets are $57 and can be bought here.Â
Weekly Gem đ
Fall on the Sword (when your shitâs not on point)!Â
This gem is all about accountability. There have been many times when Iâve failed my team or myself, and I always make a pact to do better and be better. Donât get me wrong, I get a lot of things right, but when Iâm wrong, I fall on the sword, own up to my failings, and address them head-on. For all of you leaders out there, keep it a buck with yourself and your team when you donât hold up your end of the bargain. Fall on The Sword. Make it right.Â
