What Up Family?

Welcome to The Edit with Aaron Seawood, a lifestyle letter serving a weekly dose of real estate, culture, and wisdom—all in three minutes or less. Let’s dive in.

Real Estate Remix

A new study shows the U.S. states where homeowners stay in their homes the longest. Can anyone guess the longest-tenure state? The survey shows it’s Hawaii, with 36% of homeowners living in the same house for 24 years or more! New York is up next (wow!), with 35% living in their homes for the same time. Up next are Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, and New Jersey. Do home prices have anything to do with it? It’s possible that if you’ve been in a high-value home for a long time, you’re likely to have lower housing costs because you bought at a lower price. The states where the owners stayed the shortest were Arizona, Nevada, Florida, Utah, Colorado, and Idaho. Naturally, deciding to move ultimately comes out to a confluence of factors, which are tough to boil down into a survey. I’m curious to hear from my Edit homeowners—how long have you lived in your home, and how long do you plan to stay??

NYC Insider: What’s Happening This Week

Next week, the Brooklyn Paramount (Downtown BK) will officially re-open. This theater first opened in 1928 and had a clutch line-up, with performers like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, and Ray Charles. Now, for the first time in 60 years, the building is a live performance hub again. This year, there are already 24 shows booked, including Norah Jones and Busta Rhymes. The venue looks mad dope—I mean, just look at that ceiling!! I’m keeping an eye on its schedule…anyone wanna see a show this summer?

Weekly Gem 💎

Clean your space.

(I just posted a video on this). The way to do this is to audit your immediate surroundings and ask yourself, “Is this person, place, or thing good for me?” We should all be trying to shine our light bright. It’s tough to elevate when you’re with people, in places, or doing things that don’t serve you. Make sure that everything in your immediate environment is feeding your highest and best use. Love y’all.

A Money-Making, Two-Family Townhouse in Clinton Hill

Listing courtesy of my Compass colleagues, Kila Lamadora, Asha Singh, and yours truly (Aaron Seawood)

I am excited to represent this beautiful 20’ wide Brooklyn townhome alongside my Compass fam, Kila Lamadora and Asha Singh. After a complete refresh and new price ($2.5m), this five-bed, three-bath, two-family townhome is the perfect opportunity for homeowners and investors alike. 85 Hall Street lies in the heart of Clinton Hill (I truly love this neighborhood), with the primary residence spanning over THREE floors. Here’s what else it offers:

  • Private backyard made for entertaining with beautiful permanent landscaping, a deck, and a BBQ area.
  • An open-flow concept from the kitchen to the living room to the outside. Marble kitchen countertops, custom lighting, an exposed brick wall, and built-in Klipsch ceiling speakers.
  • A separate two-bed, one-bath residence with a private entrance, abundant light, and perfect for additional income.
  • Who wants a tour?

Before you go…

🍽️: The most anticipated restaurant openings coming to NYC this spring. I’m especially stoked to see TWO new taquerias in Brooklyn on this list. Let’s see how they stack up!

🌁: Inside San Francisco’s most expensive home. That kitchen is fly, but personally, the rest isn’t really doing it for me; it’s too traditional. What do you think??

🎵: After six years, Justin Timberlake is baaaccckkk! Everything I Thought It Was is full of bangers: F**kin Up The Disco, Technicolor, Sanctified, Paradise feat. NSYNC, too many to list!

😎: Mark your cals for April 8th—it’s the last total solar eclipse we’ll see until 2044! New York State will have some pretty great viewing options. Check out this blog for the best places to see the eclipse on the East Coast.
