What Up Family?

Welcome to The Edit with Aaron Seawood, a lifestyle letter serving a weekly dose of real estate, culture, and wisdom—all in three minutes or less. Let’s dive in.

Real Estate Remix

Whether you love it or hate it, Hudson Yards has undoubtedly reinvented itself. This week, the NY Times reported how the area went from a ghost town to an office success story; the vacancy rate at Hudson Yards’ office towers is considerably lower (10%) than the rest of Manhattan (18%). It’s a remarkable turnaround for a neighborhood once deemed soulless, not to mention out of the way. Other facets of the neighborhood, like luxury housing and retail offerings, however, have been less successful. I’m curious about your thoughts on this evolving neighborhood—would you live there? How would you feel about commuting and working there?

NYC Insider: What’s Happening This Week

Tomorrow, thirty works by Ernie Barnes will be on view at Ortuzar Projects, a gallery in Tribeca. Some of Ernie’s most well-known works (“Jake” and “The Graduate”), as well as some never-before-seen pieces, will be on display. Personally, there’s something unique about his art that’s incredibly moving, and I can’t wait to see it in person. The exhibit starts tomorrow and runs until June 15th; I’m planning on going this weekend, anyone want to join?? Take a look at his work here

Fortune Favors the Bold!

You’ve heard it before, but there’s a reason for it. You don’t get poppin’ by being a shrinking violet. You have to be bold and colorful. You need to stand up and stand out! Why is that important? Because there are thousands—nah, millions—of people all vying for attention. You can’t be buried treasure. You have to be bold. And stand out, fam!

Before you go…

⏱️: The five-hour rule: how to turn a wasted day into a success.

📖: Is this the most beautiful library in NYC?

🎵:  Pink Floyd reissued their 1973 classic The Dark Side Of The Moon on 50th anniversary collector’s edition vinyl, featuring a special UV artwork print on its non-playable side. I have the original, which is worth a boatload; this is super cool, though. What’s your favorite song off this seminal album? (I love listening straight through, with Breathe [in the Air] and Money at the top of my list).

🥤: Turns out there is a reason you should order ginger ale on a flight!
