What Up Family?

Welcome to The Edit with Aaron Seawood, a brand new lifestyle letter serving a weekly dose of real estate, culture, and wisdom—all in three minutes or less. Let’s dive in.

Real Estate Remix

Michael Kimmelman, the architecture critic for the NY Times, just named this new structure “the most glamorous civic building to land in New York in years.” Anyone walking around lower Manhattan this past week may have stumbled across the new floating marble cube at the foot of One World Trade. Nestled among some of the tallest skyscrapers in all of Manhattan, the Perelman Performing Arts Center is an architectural wonder, coated in translucent marble that illuminates like a lantern after dark. I’m stoked to see this attraction—which houses three theaters—brought to a neighborhood that is in desperate need of arts and culture. The new plans for residential housing units (1,200 new apartments, 400 of them subsidized) will also help to revive FiDi and turn it into a place where more New Yorkers want to live. I find the story behind this building (which dates back to 9/11) fascinating—you can read more about the project here

NYC Insider: What’s Happening This Week

This Saturday I’m heading to Radio City Music Hall for Raphael Saadiq’s Tony! Toni! Toné! Tour. I’ve been looking forward to this one for a LONG time. There’s no other way to describe Saadiq other than EPIC. His sound is amazing; he’s got an impressive laundry list of artists he’s worked with (including Beyoncé, Erykah Badu, Issa Rae, and D’Angelo). He’s a beautiful human being and a personal friend. This tour features him, and family D’wayne Wiggins, and Timothy Christian Riley as they perform as Tony! Toni! Toné! for the first time in nearly 25 years (they have hits for days!). Anyone else have tickets? Reply back to this email if you’re going and let’s link up!

Weekly Gem 💎

Don’t Shrink Your Shine

I like to think of myself as a high beam. My job in life is to guide those around me out of the dark corners. In order to do that you have to shine bright! Too often we find ourselves in dark spaces and are quick to dim our light to make others feel comfortable because they’re insecure. Remember: you’re not an imposter. You not only belong, but you belong BIG time! (P.S. For more gems, follow me on IG; I’m sharing them daily on my story).

Brooklyn Bliss: A Sun-Soaked Penthouse on India Street

Listing courtesy of my Compass colleague, Lior Barak

Exceptional in every way, this 4-bed, 3.5-bath condo in Greenpoint is a rare and unique collector’s piece. Here are the highlights:

  • A spectacular roof deck with an outdoor kitchen and city views.
  • Floor-to-ceiling wall of windows that open all the way. (Wow)
  • Located in a boutique condominium consisting of only three homes.
  • Private elevator.
  • Who wants a tour?

Before you go…

📕: Marianne Williamson’s book ‘A Return to Love’ has been bringing me a lot of peace. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful read.

🥃: I can’t wait to check out Manhattan’s newest vinyl listening bar, In Sheep’s Clothing (what a dope name), that just opened up on Hudson Street.

🎵: Raphael Saadiq’s Tiny Desk Concert gives me goosebumps every time I watch!

🎸: This one’s super interesting: according to the WSJ, music is changing to cater to the streaming algorithms.

⛰️: Europe, anyone? Zurich is beginning to emerge as one of Europe’s hottest housing markets.
