Recent data published by the Department of City Planning uses data to visualize economic and demographic data across neighborhoods. The FactFinder shows that the youngest neighborhood is South Williamsburg, where the median age is 19.5 years old and the oldest is Bay Terrace-Clearview, where the average age is 51. The neighborhood with the highest median household income is Tribeca-City Center, at $200,000, followed by Financial District-Battery Park City and Upper East Side-Carnegie Hill, where the median is around $195,000. Park Slope ($192,000) and Brooklyn Heights ($180,000) are the two neighborhoods not located in Manhattan that made the top 10 list. And Queens has nine of the 10 neighborhoods with the highest rates of foreign-born residents.
NYC Insider: What’s Happening This Week
It’s finally happening! This Friday, July 12th, Common and Pete Rock’s new album, Auditorium Vol. 1, is being released. Better yet, they’re playing a FREE show in Bed Stuy’s Von King Park two days later on Sunday, July 14th. Common’s wordplay over Pete Rock’s dusty samples? Two formative artists whose work was influenced—and continues to influence—multiple generations. I can’t wait. If the singles Wise Up and Dreamin are any indication…🔥

Call the damn play!
Whenever I’m waffling on a situation, I always remember when my old teammate told me to “Call the damn play.” I soon realized that what I was struggling with wasn’t the right course of action—I knew what needed to get done—I was struggling with leading and delegating. If you’re in any type of leadership position, you have to get comfortable with making things happen knowing your people are following you for a reason. People appreciate and respect when you drop the hammer, be direct, and tell them what needs to be done and why. You need to create certainty. It’s great to be egalitarian—just don’t let it inhibit you from calling the damn play!
Flatiron Penthouse Oasis
Listed by my Compass colleague, Leonard Steinberg
55 West 17th St, is a penthouse in prime Flatiron that recently underwent a multi-year custom renovation. The results are spectacular and include a private, full-size rooftop pool, hot tub, and protected views to the South, North, East, and West with hundreds of feet of frontage and 40 large windows. It’s a 6-bed, 5-and-3-half-bath 6,659 SF home listed for $36M, here are the highlights (there are many):
- It was designed by New York firm DHD ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIOR DESIGN with principals David Howell and Steffani Aarons.
- The home occupies the entire 18th and 19th floors of the building along with most of the 17th floor. All are connected via a striking spiral stairway, its solid sides coated in the same Venetian Plaster that covers the apartment walls.
- The expansive roof terrace has a full-sized swimming pool and hot tub which are engulfed with panoramic views in all directions of Lower Manhattan.
- Set inside a newly built, discrete condominium designed by Morris Adjmi Architects with an elegant handmade Danish white brick facade.
- Who wants a tour?
