Redefining the Members-Only Club in Brooklyn Heights

The velvet rope just found a new zip code. The Beginning Clubhouse is flipping the script on what a private club can be: think less stuffy exclusivity and more intentional living for modern families. Set in a massive 45,000-square-foot space at 50 Columbia Heights (in my hood!), it’s where curated kids’ programming meets grown-folk wellness: spa treatments, a legit fitness setup, a bar, and on-site childcare. The vision comes from hospitality vets Chris de Koos and Michael Schoen (Little Big Hospitality), and the response has been wild! Over 1,500 families applied before the doors even opened, pushing up against the 1,200-member cap. Brooklyn didn’t need another club, but clearly it needed this one. Let me know if you were one of the lucky families to snag a spot!

NYC Insider: What’s Happening This Week

The Met Opens Its Season with a Pulitzer Classic, Reimagined

The Met isn’t playing it safe this fall. They’re opening the season by swinging for the fences with The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, a bold new opera based on Michael Chabon’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. It’s a story that cuts across continents and timelines: Nazi-occupied Prague, 1940s New York, and the golden age of comic books collide as two Jewish cousins conjure a superhero to battle evil when the real world fails to. Composer Mason Bates blends classical, electronic, and jazz textures for a score that drives the story. Bartlett Sher directs with cinematic precision, and Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads from the pit. Baritone Andrzej Filończyk steps into Joe Kavalier’s shoes for his house debut. It all begins September 21st.

Weekly Gem 💎

“The Sun Always Rises”

I know some of you are carrying weight that feels impossible. How to pay the mortgage. Headlines that make it hard to breathe. Days that blur together. Seems like fear is everywhere.

I remember the days of having a notice posted on my apartment door for past-due rent, trying to figure out my next play, and my life overall was a mess. It was a scary time, and it took everything in me to remember one thing: the sun always rises. Every morning. Without fail. And if it can, and I found a way to, so can you.

Hope isn’t pretending everything’s fine. Hope is remembering that even in the darkest stretch, light has never missed a beat. And if we block out the noise, take a moment to be still, like really still, answers from within will surface to guide us.

This week, don’t reach for the whole staircase. Just take one step. Drink the water. Send the text. Step outside and let the sky remind you that you’re still here, which means possibility is too.

You don’t have to feel strong. You just have to keep showing up. The light will meet you where you are.

Family: If my weekly gem isn’t enough, I’m Broadcasting from the Bright Side every day. If you need encouragement, a place to be heard, or someone to remind you of your greatness, please call me at 646.699.3969. You’re not alone. I got you.

The Best Home on the Market This Week

Here’s a special listing that caught my eye that I think you should consider if you’re in the market. I’m prioritizing quality, soul, and a space that truly speaks.

A Team Carte Blanche listing

319 Schermerhorn Street, 20B

$1,840,000    2 Beds / 2.5 Baths    Boerum Hill

Best Value for Luxury in Boerum Hill — Period.

High-floor, west-facing 2BR / 2.5BA at The Nevins with a private terrace, deeded storage, and a 421a tax abatement through 2033. That trio is nearly extinct in Brooklyn, and it’s why this is the smartest buy in Boerum Hill right now.

Sunset views, a terrace made for coffee-to-cocktails, and actual king-size bedrooms with serious closet space (yes, a walk-in). Add real flow, a guest powder room, and finishes that actually live well.

🔑 Best Features

  • Private terrace for golden hour and skyline glow

  • King-size bedrooms + a huge walk-in closet

  • High-end finishes: 6” wide-plank oak floors, Bosch suite of appliances, Caesarstone counters, spa baths

  • Full-service amenities: 24/7 front desk, gym, lounge, roof deck, playroom, bike storage

  • 421a tax abatement through 2033 + deeded storage = unmatched value

Boerum Hill’s best move is right here, let’s get you in to see it.
