The 10 most popular listings in Brooklyn this week on Brownstoner include some real gems; I had to highlight them for y’all. My favorites include the $11.25M Cobble Hill Italianate-style brownstone, which includes a sauna(!), and the wood frame home in Bushwick, which includes an owner’s duplex and a top-floor rental for $1.19M. NYC Insider: What’s Happening This Week 

Open House NY is next weekend, fam! This event brings hundreds of dope venues across the city to open their doors and allow us a ‘peek-behind-the-curtain.’ As a broker, I love exploring homes and OHNY takes that one step further—allowing a rare look inside old factories, movie theaters, skyscrapers, and penthouses still under construction. This year, it’s taking place Oct 18-20th, and tickets (which are only $6!) went on sale yesterday (although there are lots of venues that are free to enter, too!). With more than 300 participating sites, there’ll be plenty to explore. I’m excited to see 144 Vanderbilt Ave (a hard-hat condo tour) and 62 Reade Street (a luxe six-residence renovation project in Tribeca). Gothamist breaks down more cool spots here.

Hire for Fit, not Friendship. 

I’ve had plenty of experience building and leading a team in my career. In the past, I often decided who joined Carte Blanche based on whether I rocked with them; from a culture standpoint, that usually worked. However, it wasn’t always the best way to build around the brand! I’ve learned since that my system of the four H’s and GWC is a much more reliable metric to hire. The four H’s are Happy, Humble, Hustler, and High Ceiling. Is someone positive, coachable, scrappy, and able to grow past their current position? Once that’s established, it’s important to ensure the right people are in the right seats—that’s where GWC comes in. Does the person Get it (understand the assignment), Want it (are they ambitious), and have the Capacity (mental fortitude) to take it on? With these tools in place, you can begin building an All-Star team. One that will organically become your friends and family.
